My review of the Holderness & Bourne Ellison Hoodie: distinctive texture, a silky feel, close fit and room to swing on cool golf mornings.

Not another plain hoodie.

The texture is why I bought it. In Heathered California Spruce, the Ellison has a honeycomb surface that gives a familiar piece a little more character. It looks and feels high end, without needing much else.

Then there is the feel. Smooth and silky, rather than what I expect from a cotton sweatshirt.

The texture gives it visual interest; the softness is something you appreciate when you put it on. Both matter.

Snug, not tight.

I bought a large, my usual size.

It fits close, not baggy like a typical cotton hoodie, but the stretch lets me swing freely.

The sleeves are a particularly good detail. I can wear them down or push them higher, and they stay there. No loose cuffs slipping back over my hands.

Over a polo. Out early.

I wore it the other day as the weather started turning cooler here in the Northeast. Over a polo, it was right for the kind of morning that is chilly but not freezing. A good layer for the dew sweepers.

It works with shorts, too. You do not have to be dressed for winter to want something over your shirt.

H&B calls the fabric midweight, not ultralight. That is a useful distinction: this is an extra layer for a cool morning, not a rain shell or a winter jacket.

It has been through the wash.

I bought this myself, and I have washed it multiple times. It has been in the dryer, too.

So far, the fit and softness are unchanged, with no noticeable shrinking, pilling or change to the texture.

That is my experience, not a promise about years of wear. For care, H&B specifies a cold gentle wash and tumble drying on low.

The texture got me interested. A hoodie that feels this good, fits close and still lets me swing gives me a reason to keep wearing it.
